■In addition to being a historic and sublime monument, dating from the 13th century and having been restored in 1986, the castle of Blandy is considered as the most haunted castle in France, according to some.It is located in Blandy, in Seine-et-Marne.
■Legends:
•The night of Toussaint:
→ It seems that the night of Toussaint*, is the time when there are the most ghosts.According to the rumor, ghosts go around the towers of the fortified castle several times. The ectoplasm ended up stopping in front of the round tower, at the entrance to the castle before vanishing...until the following year!
•Legend of the great huntsman:
→ The Count of Soissons, Charles de Bourbon (owner of the castle of Blandy), one day accompanied King Henri IV to the forest or Fontainebleau. They hear a strange noise which, as night falls, becomes more and more disturbing.The king wanted to determine the source of the noise. While searching, he thought he saw the shadow of a giant through the leaves. Who whispers to him:"Do you hear me?". Three years later, the Count of Soissons dies in his castle:it was whispered that the ghost of the great huntsman entered in his room for his last breath.
•The legend of Marie d'Harcourt(the new owner of the castle) and Dunois:
→ Marie d'Harcourt was the most beautiful heiress of the kingdom, coveted by all the knights of the court of Charles VII. One day, one of them, Erard de Montargis, organized a big tournament near Romorantin, in 1429.A single knight stood out from all the others, it was Dunois. Erard and Dunois clashed.Marie, in love with Dunois, faints from the fear for her beloved, which Erard is very upset about. Erard, having lost ainst Dunois, decides to besiege the tower where Marie is. Desperate, she throws herself in the void. Dunois, thinking she is dead, kills Erard in rage. In the end, she survived thanks to a thick layer of grass, having cushioned her fall. She married Dunois.
•Legend of the cursed tree:
→ After having married Marie, Dunois leaves for a time far from Blandy. And during his absence, it is a certain Gavi, a greedy and villainous man,who takes care of current affairs.He stole his lord's income and hanged all who stood against him. Gavi had made the trunk with the money of Dunois and taken refuge in the cursed tree.
The tree was considered haunted by one of the barons of Blandy who had been killed by his brother. Since that murder, the dead man's soul could be seen wandering at nightfall: even as it's sinister moans escaped from the trunk of the dead tree.
But, in reality was actually different. Back in Blandy, Dunois decides one day to cut down the cursed tree dreaded by all. The old tree had collapsed on Davi and stuck, he died in it. We discover the body of Davi with a chest bearing the shield of Dunois.
↠As we can see there have been many deaths at the castle over the decades, according to these legends.
■Moreover,excavations have uncovered skeletons of knights in armor.
This fact may explain why this place is potentially haunted.
